HOQ CAVE

Description.

A short drive away from Arher Beach lies the impressive Hoq Cave. Stretching 3 to 4 kilometers into the limestone cliffs, the cave features impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and large pools of water. The journey to the cave’s entrance involves a 1 hour, fairly steep, hike from Terbak Village. It can be quite challenging when the sun is up.
At the top of the hill, the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the sea are stunning! Inside the cave, the path is mostly marked, but it is essential to bring a flashlight and to have a local guide walking you through!
Beyond its natural beauty, Hoq Cave holds significant archaeological importance, housing inscriptions and drawings from ancient sailors and traders who visited Socotra Island between the 1st century BC and the 6th century AD. These historical artifacts provide amazing insights into the island’s role as a hub in ancient maritime trade routes.
